Antiperinuclear Factor: A New Marker Antibody for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective :
@EN A new marker antibody for RA that has been gaining attention is the APF. The first such study on this antibody in Korea was recently completed, and its clinical significance was revdiewed.
@ES Methods :
@EN The buccal mucosal cells of a selected individual were used as the substrate for the indirect immunofluorescent test.
The results of 2,103 cases for which the APF test was undertaken between December, 1992 through September, 1993 were analyzed.
@ES Results :
@EN 1. The APF was positive in 29.1% of the patients tested.
2. The APF was positive in 76.5% of patients with a definitive diagnosis of RA.
3. The incidence of both the APF and RF being positive in patients with RA was 52%, and the incidence of either the APF or PF being positive was 25% and 12%, respectively.
@ES Conclusions :
@EN The clinical significance of the APF test proves it should be a regular diagnostic tool along with the RF in diagnosing patient with RA.
